"Good writing is essentially rewriting.
I am positive of this."

- Roald Dahl -

What to expect

All pieces of writing will receive in-line editing notes as well as overall feedback comments. So you'll receive feedback on things like language choice, sentence structures, use of literary devices etc, as well as feedback on the overall direction and spirit of the piece.

I can also offer an additional 30-minute video call to chat in more depth about your piece if you would like. Talking face-to-face (or, at least, screen-to-screen) gives us the chance to discuss your writing on a deeper level, and gives me the chance to ask you some deliciously tricky questions about your piece to get your cogs whirring!

Any piece of work sent to me can either be a standalone piece (e.g. a short story or creative essay) or an extract of a larger piece (e.g. a chapter from a novel). If it is an extract of a larger piece, then it would be helpful if you could include a bit of contextual information for me so I know where your extract will fit within the wider whole.

Please note: Although I have experience with proofreading, this is not an official proofreading service. Proofreading should be the very final stage of editing - the last polish on an otherwise finished product - whereas my editing focuses on the messy middle! Therefore my priority is not to correct every single typo or formatting error or minor grammatical slip-up. Instead my priority is to get your whole piece working as well as it can be. That means I will focus on things like pacing, character, point of view, literary devices and language choice. If I do address some of the smaller features like syntax, grammar or spelling mistakes, it will be because I think that fixing them will help the overall energy or clarity of your piece.
